Free Gift?

The other day, we had been to "Scissors", a hair saloon in Kormanagala. From past 2 years,I have been getting all my haircuts , from the first hair straighting to the recent one from there. He is good at his work, and I trust him with my hair for two reasons 1. Anvita vouches for him and I trust her judgement in matters like these 2. So far he hasn't disappointed me.

Anvita is his muse, he loves experimenting on her hair.Since the day she got her first hair cut, there has been no looking back, starting with me to her colleagues, friends, far away acquaintance's all get their hair done there(Extremely friendly by nature her friend list is very long). Its only fair, that she gets a complimentary hair spa or a hair wash whenever she accompanies them to the saloon( most of the time, she comes with good excuse to avoid it, but it doesn't work always), for his business if not tripled has been doing really good since she stepped in. While she insists on paying each time, for him its his way of saying "thank you". Off late, she tries not to accompany most of them, just to avoid his 'free' service.

The other day, we decided, coaxed her into getting a summer cut "short". Nanesh, the owner, suggested I get a hair spa done, I jumped at the suggestion. It had been long since I got one. After good 45 minutes of hair spa, and another 2 hours later (all the chatting, juices, drinks, and a tea), we asked for the bill. The bill didn't seem right, well, it was a li'll to less for a hair cut and hair spa. On my insistence he mentioned that the spa was free. I couldn't understand why? I am his customer, however not a regular one and unlike Anvita , I haven't really taken many friends there, just a handful. It didn't seem fair. After all the "NO, I cant" and "we wont accept" and "Its ok, I insist" later, he took mere Rs 100.!!

It didn't feel right, but then the guy didn't budge and his wife supported him. 5 mins, later I tried to pay the exact amount and I was shooed away, just like that " We are not taking money, you better leave".

It was a sweet gesture, and my strong intuition says it was because I was with her. How about that a "free gift" and you still feel awkard about it. Sleep over it.
